Corporate Highlights
Mid-sized IT and R&D services firm MindTree has bagged two multi-year IT infrastructure management services (IMS) deals worth over $70 million. The customers include information and communication technology (ICT) services provider in Europe and a leading bank in the US. The deal signed with the European customer is the single largest multi-year win for MindTree in the company’s history. As per the contract which will be executed over the next five years, MindTree will use its managed services platform, MWatch, to provide IMS as managed services from India.

State Bank of India proposes to merge its five remaining subsidiaries with itself over the next 12-18 months. While the bank has already merged State Bank of Saurashtra and State Bank of Indore with itself, it would require a government go-ahead to merge the remaining five - State Bank of Hyderabad, State Bank of Patiala, State Bank of Bikaner and Jaipur, State Bank of Travancore and State Bank of Mysore.

Construction firm Gammon India has bagged two orders worth Rs 1,947 crore from Chennai Metro Rail (CMRL) for the design and construction of seven underground stations. These contracts (UAA-01 and UAA-05) are part of a five-tender package floated by CMRL for the design and construction of underground stations and associated tunnels, covering a total length of 18 km and 19 underground stations.

Telecom service provider Bharti airtel along with 16 other global telcos launched the Europe India Gateway (EIG) cable system that will enhance diversity and capacity between Europe and India. The 15,000 km cable has received investment of around $700 million and has a capacity of 3.84 terabits per second.

Economic Highlights
Addressing a press conference in Delhi, India’s Commerce Minister Anand Sharma said that India is aiming to double its exports in next three years. He said that the commerce ministry aims exports to increase to US$ 450 bn in the coming three years from an expected 225 bn in the current fiscal. India’s exports grew 32.5% to US$ 20.6 bn in Jan’11.
