With crude oil prices showing upward trend, US markets hold gains
With oil prices headed higher as some flights resumed over the ash-clouded skies of Europe, U. S. markets rose on Tuesday.
The Los Angeles Times has reported that some flights from France, Germany, Netherlands and Britain resumed Tuesday after long delays imposed by ongoing ash pollution from Iceland's Eyjafjallajoekull volcano.
On the New York Mercantile Exchange, Crude oil, for May delivery, rose by $1.53 on Tuesday to $82.98.
The Dow Jones industrial average, by close on Tuesday, gained 25.01 points or 0.23 percent to 11,117.06. The Standard & Poor's 500 rose 9.65 or 0.81 percent to 1,207.17. The Nasdaq composite index rose 20.20 or 0.81 percent to 2,500.31.
2,499 stocks advanced and 556 declined on a volume of 5.3 billion shares traded, on the New York Stock Exchange.
Yielding 3.8percent, the benchmark 10-year Treasury note was unchanged.
There was a fall in the euro to $1.3439 from Monday's $1.3488. Against the yen, the dollar rose to 93.242 yen from Monday's 92.4 yen. (With Inputs from Agencies)
