Court issues notice to police over Vikas Yadav's bail plea

Court issues notice to police over Vikas Yadav's bail plea New Delhi, Oct 15 : The Delhi High Court Thursday issued notice to Delhi Police on the interim bail plea of Vikas Yadav - serving life imprisonment for killing Nitish Katara - as he wants to attend the wedding of his sister Bharti.

A division bench headed by Justice Anil Kumar issued notice to Delhi Police and the Tihar Jail authorities asking for details about the number of days Vikas Yadav will have spent in jail by Oct
20.

Vikas' counsel Sumit Verma had submitted before the bench that his presence was required at home as he was the elder brother of Bharti, who is getting married Nov 1.

Verma also cited the case of the Shivani Bhatnagar murder case, in which accused R. K. Sharma was granted bail for his daughter's marriage.

Vikas, the son of controversial Uttar Pradesh politician D. P. Yadav, was convicted along with his cousin Vishal Yadav for kidnapping and murdering Katara, who was said to be a close friend of Bharti.

Vikas and Vishal were convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment by the trial court last year. The duo had kidnapped and killed Katara, the son of an Indian Administrative Service officer, on the intervening night of Feb 17-18, 2002 after abducting him from a marriage party in Ghaziabad as they were against the relationship between him and Bharti.
