The Mumbai police on Wednesday arrested a Muslim couple for burning a copy of ‘Koran’ outside their house in the Govandi.

The locals of the area have alleged that Mastan Shah and his wife Noor Bano Shah have hurt their religious sentiments.

However, the couple said that since the book was very old and tattered they decided to burn it instead of throwing it. The result: the furious locals went on rampage and completely vandalized the couple’s house.

Initially the husband was able to escape during the incident but later the police came into action and arrested both the husband and wife.

The couple said the police that they did not have any intentions of hurting anyone’s religious sentiment.

The police has booked the couple under Sections 295 (intent to insult the religion of any class) and 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code.
