Countries Should Ditch Fossil Fuels In Favor Of Green Energy, says Christiana Figueres

United Nations climate chief Christiana Figueres praised china's environmental agendas. But she also warned other countries that if they didn't start using fossil fuels in favor of green energy soon, soon there will be a situation when they will not be able to save the world from warming more than two degrees Celsius by the end of the century.

Figueres said, "Why would the United States industry want to leave the opportunity of growth? And the opportunity to export the technology? Because all countries are turning to renewable energy, why would the United States want to leave that to China?"

But now the irony is that where on one hand China is planning to use more green energy on the other the country also has plans for using more of fossil fuels. This way the countr6y is planning to increase and not to reduce the carbon emissions.

It has been told that China's State Council released a report last year saying it would get 20% of its energy from 'non-fossil fuel' sources by 2030. It said that the energy will be made up of hydroelectric, wind, solar, geothermal or nuclear power.

Despite China's heavy use of fossil fuels, this is not the first time when Figueres has praised the country for its efforts on global warming.

Figueres previously said China wants to breathe air that they don't have to look at. They are not doing this because they want to save the planet, but because it is for their national interest, she said.
