Council okays UoP budget

It will be finalised in the senate meeting

Vice-chancellor of the University of Pune (UoP) Narendra Jadhav said that the management council of the university on Wednesday approved the budget for 2009-10. "But the finalisation of the budget will take place only in the senate meeting to be slated on 28 and 29 March," he said. Jadhav was briefing mediapersons about the decisions of the management council.

The university will offer stipend to all 240 students pursuing MPhil at the university and candidates attached to the postgraduation centres in affiliated colleges.

"For receiving the stipend, the students should fulfill some criteria. Only freshers will be given the stipend and students pursuing other courses will not be eligible. The students applying for the stipend should complete the degree in thee years only,'' he said.

The council also finalised the audit report for 2002-03, 2003-04, 2004-05, 2005-06 and 2006-07, he said. "The management council also approved to set up Marathi Advanced Study Centre, Adivasi Studies Centre, Disaster Management Centre and Distance and E-learning Centres in the university," he said.

He also said that the council approved the decision to appoint officers on special duty for these four centres.

Speaking about the imbroglio regarding the construction of the building for the university, he said that the decision of withdrawing the contract given to Engineers India Limited (EIL) has been taken.
