Controversial Paper of James Hansen Now Open For Comment

The controversial research paper by a longtime NASA climate scientist James Hansen and 16 colleagues has been finally published online. The paper published online is now open for comment.

The paper entitled 'Ice melt, sea level rise and superstorms: evidence from paleoclimate data, climate modeling, and modern observations that 2 ?C global warming is highly dangerous' is now open for comment.

After seeing the attention the paper and its findings have received so far, there are high hopes that it will generate bulks of comments from fellow scientists.

The study's findings showed the possibility that sea level rise in this century will be far more than previously forecasted by the UN's Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. The findings presented in the UN's report have been widely regarded as the gold standard of climate research.

Furthermore, the study hypothesizes that rapid sea level rise resulting from melting of ice in Antarctica and Greenland, could lead to a number of climate change.

It could shut down the oceans' circulation, stratify the polar seas with warmer waters trapped below cold surface layers, it could increase the temperature difference between low and high latitudes, and can also generate stronger storms, showed study.

Climate scientists Kevin Trenberth of the National Center for Atmospheric Research highly criticized saying, "There are way too many assumptions and extrapolations for anything here to be taken seriously other than to promote further studies".

Some other researchers also appeared skeptic about the study's findings, but they acknowledge that they too have great concerns about sea level rise from the melting of ice sheets, especially if global warming exceeds 2 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels.
