Condoleezza Rice asks Pak to do more to stabilise its border with Afghanistan
Washington, July 21 : US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice has said that Pakistan had to do more to check militancy and stabilise its border with Afghanistan, as, according to her, it would be in its own interest.
She said that militants in Pakistan had rendered much damage to Pakistan in the past, including killing former premier Benazir Bhutto.
“More has to be done not just for Afghanistan’s security, not just because of concerns about America’s interests, but because of Pakistan’s itself,” the Daily Times quoted Rice as saying.
“We are talking about a place in which militants have killed Benazir Bhutto, they carried out attacks near the Red Mosque, they carried out attacks on Pakistani soldiers, and so Pakistan has a very strong interest and very strong stake in dealing with the places where militants are able to gather and train in carrying out their activities,” she said, adding that “we do need better action on the Pak-Afghan border”.
