Colombian guerrilla rebels and a Basque terrorist group are linked, says PresidentThere is evidence of cooperation between Colombian guerrilla rebels and a Basque terrorist group, Colombian President Alvaro Uribe said on Monday.

El Universal has reported that in a television interview, Uribe said "there have always been many pieces of evidence" of possible collaboration by the Basque terrorist organization ETA with the guerrillas of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC).

Uribe said that when he was a presidential candidate 10 years ago, two attacks occurred in which "the Colombian police told me that the explosives used by FARC were similar to those used by ETA or the Irish Republican Army
(IRA)."

El Universal also said that Uribe cited investigations by Spanish authorities into alleged Venezuelan involvement with ETA and FARC plans to attack Colombian political figures in Spain, and called for continuing cooperation among countries combating terrorism. (With inputs from Agencies)
