Frankfurt - German Bundesliga clubs Bayer Leverkusen and Cologne were both fined by the German Football Federation (DFB) Monday after flares and firecrackers landed on the pitch in the recent derby match between the sides.

Cologne have been hit with a fine of 23,000 euros (29,500 dollars) while Leverkusen, which hosted the game on October 24, have to pay 10,000 euros.

The missiles were fired from the Cologne fan section at the BayArena ground in the direction of a linesman and a Leverkusen player.

Cologne's higher fine took into account an incident at the team's home match against Bayern Munich in September when an empty cup was thrown towards a linesman. (dpa)
