Coca-Cola planning to revive Citra in India
Beverage major, Coca Cola is planning to return the Citra brand of clear-lime drink to the Indian market.
The company said that it is launching Citra in a few towns in Maharashtra and Gujarat on a pilot basis and will later expand the product in other locations including metro cities. The move comes at a time when Sprite, the second-largest soft drink labbel in the country is leading the lime-lemon drinks segment.
The lime-lemon drinks segment is the fastest growing segment of the Indian fizzy drinks market.
According to experts the company is most likely to use the brand to attract price-sensitive consumers and will thus offer the product at a price that is cheaper than its own brands Sprite and Limca as well as PepsiCo's Mountain Dew and 7 Up
Coca-Cola had acquired Citra from Ramesh Chauhan more than twenty years ago but alter decided to scrap the band in order to focus on its own label, Sprite. The company had left out Citra and Gold Spot brands in favor of its global brands like Sprite and Fanta but had decided to retain Thums Up, Limca and Maaza in the market.
