Chrysler lost more than 1 billion dollars in year's first half
New York - The country's third largest auto maker Chrysler Thursday reported losses of more than 1 billion dollars in the year's first half, with second-quarter losses of 565 million dollars.
Chrysler is in the midst of merger talks with General Motors after Germany's Daimler firm sold 80 per cent majority share to Cerberus investment company earlier this year.
Despite reports earlier this week it could also be interested in a deal with Chrysler, Nissan Motor Co, Japan's third- largest carmaker, said Thursday it would not be willing to put up cash for an alliance with Chrysler, according to Bloomberg financial news service, which quoted unnamed sources.
Since Cerberus took over Chrysler majority, the company is no longer obligated to publicize its results. But Daimler, which still has a 20 per cent hand in Chrysler, released the figures as part of its own quarterly report in Germany.
Daimler said it attributed 351 million euros (450 million dollars) in losses to Chrysler in the quarter. (dpa)
