Chinese EV manufacturer NIO enjoys strong sales in August 2023
Chinese electric automobile manufacturer NIO Incorporated continued to enjoy impressive growth in sales in August 2023, demonstrating a substantial upswing in its business operations through a remarkable surge in both production and sales. According to newly released data, NIO achieved global EV deliveries of more than 19,000 units last month, representing an impressive surge of 81 per cent from the corresponding month of 2022. The given monthly performance closely trailed the record-setting month of July, when the company delivered a total of 20,462 units to customers.
The bulk of the Chinese EV maker’s sales continue to occur from the local (Chinese) market, where the brand has successfully established a strong presence. Simultaneously, the company is expanding its business into various countries across Europe to turn its dream of becoming an efficient global player in the realm of EVs into a reality.
When we break down the August figures, we find that the company’s deliveries comprised a total of 12,015 crossovers and SUVs, and 7,314 sedans, which reflect year-over-year growth of 59 per cent and 134 per cent, respectively in these categories. As the company didn’t provide the exact breakdown of individual models, it is easy to assume that diverse lineup contributed to the strong numbers.
To be more specific, NIO’s EV deliveries during the month of August 2023 include 12,015 crossover/SUVs (including the EC6, ES6, EC7, ES7, and the ES8), and 7,314 units of sedans (including the ET5/ET5T, and the ET7). Total deliveries thus settled at 19,329 units, up 81 per cent year-over-year.
Year-to-date (YTD), the Chinese brand has successfully delivered more than 94,000 EVs, marking a substantial 32 per cent growth from the corresponding period in the previous year. The YTD breakdown of the company’s EV deliveries this year is as follows: 47,003 units of crossover/SUVs (including the EC6, ES6, EC7, ES7, and the ES8), and 47,349 sedans (including the ET5/ET5T, and ET7). It is also worth noting here that the YTD crossover/SUV deliveries represent a decline of around 20 per cent, while the figure mentioned for the sedans represent a substantial growth of 279 per cent.
Shanghai-headquartered NIO's existing electric EV lineup is comprised of multiple new or refreshed models, all of which have been built on the NT2.0 platform. The NIO EV’s transition from NT1.0 to NT2.0 platform is nearing completion, with the new EC6 model’s launch scheduled for September this year.
