Chinese court sentences former power company chairman to death

New Delhi, Dec 22 : A Chinese court has sentenced the former board chairman of Shanghai Electric Group and former president of Shanghai SVA (Group), Wang Chengming, to death for being involved in collective misappropriation and taking bribes.

According to the Xinhua news agency, the convicts can file an appeal against the court’s quantum of sentence.

During his presidential tenure at the Shanghai SVA, (Group), Wang and two other senior business executives pocketed over 40 million in a land transfer business in Shanghai, according to the statement from the Changchun Intermediate People's Court in Jilin province.

Wang’s two aides, Yan Jinbao and Lu Tianming received life sentences and 15 years respectively. (ANI)
