Chidambaram to face privilege motion in parliament
Union home minister P Chidambaram is likely to face a privilege motion in the parliament, which will be moved by main opposition party, BJP. The BJP has accused Chidambaram of showing disrespect to Parliament because he made a statement publicly over a case in which he is accused of misusing his office to help a Delhi businessman.
Party members took the decision to call for a privilege motion at the BJP parliamentary party meeting, which was held under the leadership of L K Advani. Opposition leaders in both the houses attended the meeting.
BJP leader S S Ahluwalia said that the Chidambaram made the public statement when the parliament session is ongoing instead of giving a statement inside the parliament. He said that this is showing disrespect to the parliament and informed that Yashwant Sinha has moved a notice of privilege against the home minister.
He also said that the Prime Minister should not have given a clean chit to Chidambaram in his interaction with the media while he was returning from Russia. Opposition accuses him of helping a Delhi hotelier, who he once represented as a lawyer. They say that Chidambaram used his office to withdraw some cases of forgery and cheating against the businessman. Chidambaram ahs said that he is not involved in any wrongdoing and has refuted accusations laid by the opposition.
