Chavan, Bhujbal meet PM, discuss Maharashtra security scenario
New Delhi, Dec 12 : Maharashtra Chief Minister Ashok Chavan and Deputy CM Chhagan Bhujbal met Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh here today and reportedly discussed the security scenario in Maharashtra.
Talking to reporters, Chavan said that they briefed Dr Singh about the measures taken to strengthen security in the state in the wake of the Mumbai terror attacks.
They also sought more central assistance for police reforms in the state, he added.
This was Chavan first visit to New Delhi after becoming Chief Minister on December 8.
Chavan is also scheduled to visit his hometown Nanded and Nagpur on Sunday.
Chavan, an MLA from Nanded and son of former Union Minister S B Chavan, was elected a Member of the Parliament for the first time in 1987.
Chavan replaced Vilasrao Deshmukh who resigned from his post after the Mumbai terror attacks last month.
Earlier, Maharashtra leader Narayan Rane, who was suspended from Congress, had slammed the party for delaying its decision in choosing Vilasrao Deshmukh''s successor. He also said that Chavan did not have the experience to be the chief minister of a state. (ANI)
