CBI seeks court’s permission to make Anil, Tina Ambani witnesses in 2G case

CBI seeks court’s permission to make Anil, Tina Ambani witnesses in 2G caseThe Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) wants to make Reliance Group Chairman Anil Ambani as well as his wife Tina Ambani witnesses in the 2G spectrum allocation scam case.

On Tuesday, the CBI told a trial court that Anil and Tina's deposition was required because the company's executives had not given clear-cut answers as to at whose instance they created a shell company to win 2G spectrum.

Speaking on the topic, special public prosecutor U. U. Lalit said, "There are seven facets of matters on which we do not have clear-cut answers and, thus, we want to examine Anil and Tina Ambani."

Seeking to make Anil and Tina Ambani prosecution witnesses in the case, Lalit said the court had on December 19 had summoned certain bank documents related to the case and now the investigating agency wanted to examine some of those witnesses to verify the same.

But, the public prosecutor's plea was opposed by senior advocate Mukul Rohatgi, who argued that it was intended to embarrass and harass Anil and his wife.

Senior advocate Hariharan, who appeared for another executive of the company, argued that the CBI wasn't revealing the complete picture of the case before the court.
