CBI Judge grants interim bail to Abhay Chautala in graft case
After he failed to appear before it in a graft case, Haryana legislator Abhay Chautala was granted interim bail by a city court Monday.
Interim bail was granted to Chautala, an Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) legislator by Special Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Judge P. S. Teji, who also fixed the matter for further hearing March 5. Abhay is the son of INLD chief Om Prakash Chautala.
After the CBI's counsel submitted that despite their best efforts summons issued against the leader could not be served, the court had issued a warrant against Abhay Chautala Feb 15.
Earlier, the court had issued summons against Abhay Chautala and his brother Ajay Chautala and others after taking cognizance of the chargesheet filed by the CBI in a case for allegedly having assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.
As per income tax records during the period 2000 to 2005, Abhay Chautala's assets were 522 percent more than his income of Rs. 22.89 crore, alleged the CBI chargesheet filed against him. The agency claimed to have found Rs.
