CAG says low-floor buses are costly
The Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) has been slammed by the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG), for the under-utilization of its low-floor buses.
In its recently submitted report, the auditing body said that the DTC is misusing the government's resources by buying such expensive buses. It is further draining the resources by under-utilizing these public transport vehicles.
It said that these kinds of buses are not suitable for the homogeneous fleet present in the city.
The report, which was submitted in the Assembly, on Thursday, said that the DTC purchased 1,500 non-AC and 1,000 AC low-floor buses in September 2008. The price quoted by it after the procurement was much higher than the actual price which was suggested by the technical committee of the DTC.
Because of the higher prices, the exchequer was supposed to pay Rs. 244.30 crore more than what he should have. Over and above this, an additional expenditure of Rs. 833.30 crore, was added to the list and shown as the maintenance charges.
Tata Motors had supplied these vehicles and the CAG report said that the auto maker was also involved in the fraud.
