Cabinet approves President’s rule in Jharkhand
Ranchi, Jan 19 : The Union Cabinet today approved President's rule in Jharkhand.
A Jharkhand assembly has also decided that the cabinet will remain in a suspended animation.
The meeting was held here this morning to consider Jharkhand Governor Syed Sibtey Razi's recommendation to impose President rule in the State after a consensus on appointing a new Chief Minister of ruling Jharkand Murli Morcha (JMM)-led coalition could not be reached.
No other political organization showed interest in forming an alternate Government in the state.
After Shibhu Soren's defeat in the assembly bye-election, he had named party MLA Champai Soren as his successor, but the suggestion was not accepted by his allies-Congress, RJD and some Independent MLA's.
The main opposition consisting of NDA and other political parties had appealed for fresh elections in the State.
However, State RJD leader Annapurna Devi appealed that President's rule should be applied as the last option.
JMM being the single largest party in the ruling UPA coalition should take the initiative in hammering a consensus, she said (ANI)
