British Foreign Secretary in Pakistan for two days

Islamabad, Apr. 20: British Foreign Secretary David MilibandBritish Foreign Secretary David Miliband is arriving here today on a two-day visit to hold talks with the Pakistani leadership. Miliband will meet President Pervez Musharraf, Prime Minister Syed Yousaf Raza Gillani and Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi on Monday, diplomatic sources said.

“Besides other issues, the political situation in Pakistan, strategy to combat threat of extremism and terrorism and efforts to strengthen democracy in the country will come under discussion,” the Daily Times quoted sources, as saying.

Miliband would also talk about ways to reform democratic institutions, especially the Election Commission of Pakistan, the sources said.

Miliband will visit Peshawar to meet Awami National Party (ANP) leader Asfandyar Wali Khan and NWFP Chief Minister Ameer Haider Khan Hoti. He would also visit the Federally Administered Tribal Areas Secretariat. (ANI)
