Boxee TV partners exclusively with Wal-Mart for Boxee TV sales
According to a new Bloomberg report, New York-based startup Boxee has worked out an `exclusive' partnership with retail giant Wal-Mart for the sale of Boxee TV - the company's new Web-connected set-top box.
Going by the report, the $98-priced Boxee TV will soon start showing up at over 3,000 locations of Wal-Mart across the US. The device - which was introduced by Boxee last month - comprises a small black box and remote which will enable the users to gain access to free TV channels as well as the Internet.
Confirming the Bloomberg report, a Boxee spokeswoman said: "Yes, the news is true - for the holiday season Boxee TV will be available exclusively at Walmart stores and online at walmart. com and on our website." The spokeswoman further added that there will not only be in-store displays of Boxee TV at Wal-Mart, but the device will also be included in the marketing materials of the bigwig retailer.
With the Boxee TV sales to commence at Wal-Mart just in time for the holiday shopping season, some additional offers have been announced by Boxee as a promotional move for early buyers of the device.
All those who purchase Boxee TVs during holiday shopping will be able to avail "No Limits DVR" service for `free' for three months; and will also get three months of `free' Netflix. In addition, they will also be eligible for a discounted $10 monthly charge for the entire time-span of their subscription.
