Bowie Resident may be down with West Nile Virus
Late Tuesday, the Maryland Division of Agriculture has informed the Bowie officers that a resident of Bowie might be suffering from West Nile virus. At this stage, it is not confirmed that the person is having the virus. It also not confirmed from where he has contracted the virus.
Jeannine Dorothy, an entomologist with the Maryland Division of Agriculture, said that they do not think that the person has contracted the problem from Bowie, as there mosquito spray is being done on regular basis.
Dorothy shared that the person lives with the Somerset neighborhood. On Tuesday, all streets within the area and different nearby areas of the streets will be sprayed. On August 19, the state health officials have reported Maryland’s first confirmed of West Nile virus.
Dr. Howard Haft, the state’s deputy secretary of Public Well being Providers, has asked people to follow easy instruction to avoid the danger of getting infected.
Steps to follow-
• Empty areas having place for standing water.
• Empty kids’ swimming pools.
• Change water in pet’s bowl everyday
• If there is dripping tap, fix it immediately.
• Make sure water can run smoothly and if required get gutters and downspouts clean.
• Avoid going outside nightfall, as it is the best time for insects to attack.
• When going outside, use insect repellant, wear full sleeves shirt and pants and stay aware from mosquito-prone areas.
