Blue Bell returns to store shelves in Central Texas, Houston

On Monday, Blue Bell returned to shelves in Central Texas and Houston, being part of the phase one of a rollout. North Texas is going to be in the second phase but so far no date has been announced. The century-old Texas Company has made a careful comeback after it sparked a health crisis.

This year, Blue Bell recalled over 8 million gallons of ice cream. It happened after some of Blue Bell products were discovered to contain listeria, a potentially fatal bacteria. According to the health officials more than 10 people got hospitalized after consuming the ice cream, out of which three lost their lives.

There came a time when it became doubtful that whether the Brenham-based company could bounce back or not. The company fired 37% of its employees and furloughed 1,400 others. Blue Bell’s Brenham plant is still closed with no date yet decided for reopening. The ice cream that returned on shelves on Monday was made in Alabama.

Among diehard fans of Blue Bell fans concern was absent as they were eagerly got their shopping carts filled at many Central Texs grocery stores. Company officials had refused to give sales figures for the first day. They didn’t even tell when Blue Bell products would make a comeback in Dallas.
