According to reports, a very hot patch of water known as the blob is expanding into the Puget Sound, which is a seaway in Washington state. Scientists are concerned over the increasing temperature of the water in the area leading into the Pacific Ocean for the reason that it could badly affect marine life and human health.

According to experts, there has not been adequate circulation to drive the water outside the inlet. According to senior oceanographer Christopher Krembs, consequently, temperatures in the Puget Sound are four degrees Fahrenheit hotter than the normal temperatures recorded over a number of years.

The blob was found in 2013. According to experts, it has increased water temperature by up to seven degrees in the regions, where it has spread. One can see it on weather maps as it is having a distinctive red color. So far, the Blob has been moving between Alaska and Mexico and is adversely affecting marine life.

As per reports, fishes are affected badly and many regions of the Hood Canal have been closed as a result of increased toxin concentrations. The condition is attracting the attention of scientists from all agencies, including local, state and federal.

As per Nick Bond, a climate scientist at the University of Washington, the blob could have environmental effects, but he didn’t expect it to be that intense. According to Krembs, , “We’re measuring water temperatures in the Sound 4 degrees Fahrenheit higher than normal from our past 25 years of record keeping”.
