Bhutia inks contract with East Bengal
Indian football captain Bhaichung Bhutia has finally inked a contract with East Bengal at the India Football Association (IFA)'s office in Kolkata today and he will play in the club team in the upcoming I-League.
Bhutia was suspended by Mohun Bagan for six months without pay over a disciplinary issue in June and he has joined East Bengal club after getting interim relief from the All India Football Federation (AIFF) in the Bagan suspension case.
AIFF arbitrator Amarendra Sharan gave interim relief to Bhutia saying that he would require some more time to submit his final report to AIFF and Bhutia can play for East Bengal in the meantime.
Mr. Sharan added that if the decision goes with Bagan then Bhutia will be ruled out of the entire season and he will have to return the advance amount to the club received by him.
Bhutia had missed an exhibition match and some practice sessions due to ban and he will resume his domestic career in the opening match of the I-League against Pune on October 3. East Bengal will take their flight for Pune on Thursday.
Meanwhile, Mohun Bagan has opposed this decision of AIFF and they have threatened to appeal to FIFA.
