BHEL Bags BTG Orders Worth Rs 35 Bn

Power equipment major Bharat Heavy Electricals (BHEL) has received BHEL Bags BTG Orders Worth Rs 35 Bnboiler-turbine-generator (BTG) orders worth Rs 35 billion from NTPC and its JV arm, Nabinagar power plant, for a total of 1,750 mw units.

The total cost of establishing these units will be approximately Rs 87 billion. These are for two different projects.

The first project comprises three units of 250 mw with a total investment of Rs 33 billion at Bongaigaon in the North-East. The value of the contract for BHEL is about Rs 15 billion.

The other BTG contract, approx Rs 20 billion for BHEL will be for four divisions of 250 mw at Navinagar in Bihar’s Aurangabad region. The total value of the project for NTPC is estimated around Rs 53.52 billion.

The Bongaigaon plant, which will be NTPC’s first power plant in the Northeastern region, is likely to start making electricity from the first 250 mw unit by the end of the nest year (2009).

The second unit is expected to be finished in 2010-11 and the third by 2011-12.

The electricity from this plant will be used by Indian Railways for running electric trains in Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Chhatisgarh, Maharashtra, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh in the eastern and western regions of the country.

At 12:45 pm, shares of the company declined 5.0%, to trade at Rs 1,372 on the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE).
