Islamabad, Jan 2: The sale of books in Pakistan authored by former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto and her father late Zulfikar Ali Bhutto has increased after her assassination on Thursday.

Bookstores have re-opened just two days ago after remaining close for four consecutive days in the wake of Benazir’s assassination.

Most of the people in Pakistan visiting the bookstores were interested in buying Benazir’s book “Daughter of the East” and its Urdu version “Dukhtar-e-Mashriq”.

Orders have also been placed for Benazir’s forthcoming book “Reconciliation: Islam, Democracy and the West”.

Imran Ahmed, bookstore owner, said: “More and more people were coming to buy books authored by her and sale of her autobiography “Daughter of the East” was on the top”.

He said sale of the book had jumped from one copy in a month previously to seven copies a day.

Owner of a Super Market bookstore said that so far he had booked 15 orders for Benazir’s forthcoming book and he was in contact with its distributors.

He said that the US leading publisher HarperCollins has hastened the release date of Benazir’s new book, which is a political treatise-cum-memoir. The book is expected be on the shelves by February this year.

HarperCollins had signed up the book for an estimated advance of 75,000 dollars just ahead of her return to Pakistan in October 2007 after eight years of self-imposed exile. (ANI)
