Becks to take up top executive job at world’s biggest sports, entertainment firm

David BeckhamLondon, Dec 1 : ‘Goldenboots’ David Beckham is poised to become the United States vice-president of the world’s biggest sports and entertainment firm.

The former England captain is all set to take a top executive role in giant company AEG, whose president is LA Galaxy owner Tim Leiweke.

The football ace has been promised the lucrative boardroom job after getting through with playing, and he is likely to become a big investor in the firm which owns and operates stadia worldwide, including London’s Millennium Dome and O2 Arena.

Beckham was recently spotted with Leiweke’s daughter Francesca, 22, a business graduate from California’s Stanford University.

The pair were photographed together earlier this month at Staples Center, home of the LA Lakers basketball team, which is also owned by AEG.

“Fran’s giving David fast-track lessons in sports finance. Tim sees David as a future high-profile marketing VP at AEG,” The Daily Star quoted a senior aide of Tim Leiweke as saying.

The source said: “He now has the high profile and celebrity status in America that Tim believes will attract further investors and raise public awareness of the company.

“But he wants David to be more than a figurehead or globe-trotting ambassador, which is why Fran is explaining the grassroots day-to-day running of the business.

“She’s destined for big things and agrees with her father that David will help AEG become a household name,” the source added.

And what looks like Beckham apparently jumped at the chance to join the world of sports finance when his football career ends.

A source close to the former Man Utd player said: “He’s preparing for the next stage of his life. He believes his friend Tim is handing him a golden chance to become one of the biggest sports and entertainment moguls in the world.” (ANI)
