‘Be yourself’
She is talkative, but that is how Juhi Pande landed up with a job as a video jockey
Bunking lectures would probably be the most exciting thing to do in college! But, when a super hot VJ is at your campus, who would even think of the word ‘bunk’? VJ Juhi of Channel V was chilling out at Symbiosis Institute of Mass Communication (SIMC) at Fest O’ Comm 09, to shoot for the music channel’s new show McDonald’s (V) In Your Fest. “Twelve college kids were followed 24X7 for 15 days by a crew of 30 members with 11 cameras,” is how Juhi Pande describes the show in one sentence. Giving out a little more detail about the show featuring SIMC’s fest, she says, “We didn’t set up any studio and had no script. Everything was impromptu. With the cameras tracking down all that goes on behind organising a college festival, we managed to capture a lot of quarrels, back-biting and significant dose of political play among the organisers. Along with that there were also a lot of fun elements, enthusiasm and hardwork that the students put in to present one fantastic festival.” Did it remind her of her college days,
is what we wonder. “There were no such events held at the hotel management institute I attended,” Juhi sulks. But with a smirk she quickly adds, “Nevertheless, that missing part of my life came alive here with all these students in Pune. Though, I was supposed to be hosting the show, by default I became a part of the excitement and gossip at SIMC’s campus. I felt like one of the students.” And she would have actually been a student of Symbiosis in Pune, if she had stuck to her original plans some years ago. “When I first came to Pune during my studying years, I saw the Symbi campus on Senapati Bapat Road and decided to study here. But as life had other plans, I ended up at St Xavier’s in Mumbai instead,” she reveals. Well, how about revealing how you landed up being a VJ? “I worked as a model manager with Elite Model Management. I came to Pune with the Channel V team to deal with the models for Get Gorgeous Season 1. That’s when Amar Deb, head of Channel V discovered me being a talkative girl and asked me if
I want to take up veejaying! Now you see me yapping away on your idiot box,” narrates the slender, tanned and tattooed VJ.
Her tips to someone who wants to follow the same career path and Juhi preaches, “Be yourself, don’t ape and don’t let your head bloat just because you interview celebrities and stars. Remember you’re the presenter and not the star.”
