New Delhi, Nov 22: The tussle between the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and Chairman of the Selection Committee, Dilip Vengsarkar, over writing newspaper columns by the latter, turned bitter today when the Board issued a show cause notice to him for defying its gag order.

The BCCI reportedly told the former India skipper, “stop writing or quit as chief selector”.

Despite the BCCI warning to stop writing columns for the newspaper, the chief selector did not put down his pen. He wrote column for Thursday's Amar Ujala, a Hindi daily, and Sakal, a Marathi daily.

Sakal is owned by the brother of BCCI Chief Sharad Pawar.

"BCCI President Sharad Pawar decided to issue a show cause to Vengsarkar for continuing to write newspaper columns despite the Board's directives,” BCCI Vice President Rajiv Shukla told mediapersons.

"An explanation will be sought from Vengsarkar for the columns which have appeared in Hindi and Marathi dailies,” he said.

The BCCI recently issued a seven-point guideline which not only barred the selectors from writing columns but also sitting in the Indian dressing room during international matches. (ANI)
