Bag it now

Movies have always spun off a new trend, and the simple yet effervescent jhola bag, that can't really go out of vogue with the city's youngsters, has another reason to stay put, with Sonam Kapoor making a style statement with the bag, in her recent release Delhi 6.

Bags come in all shapes and styles, but one thing that will always be a favourite for many, is the jhola, usually associated with the intellectual bunch. “The jhola signifies a carefree personality and exudes confidence,” says Saumya S, a student at Christ University who owns many of them and coordinates them with her outfit everyday. “You can carry it with almost everything you wear and is convenient,” she adds.

City-based designer Anu Nagappa says, “The jhola is a classic, and can never go out of style. It is synonymous to India's crafts in a big way. Jholas are a hit with young college goers and professionals, and I also spot many expats in the city carrying them.”

“It is a perfect bag for the day, but if one insists on using it for the evening, then it will have to be matched with the right outfit,” she adds

You get them in various colours and patterns ranging from, mirror work, plain cotton and more. One can pick up jholas off the streets in the city. A must check out option is right outside Cauvery emporium, which offers a variety to choose from. Apart from this, one can check out a dozen other stores on Brigade Road, Commercial Street, Jayanagar and more. Jholas are an affordable buy, as they usually cost you Rs 150 approximately. But, Shrey Urs feels, “Jholas are comparatively more expensive in the city and I prefer picking them up from Jaipur or Delhi, where it is half the price.”
