Australian unemployment rate remains at 5.4% in April
The unemployment rate in Australia was reported at 5.4% in the month of April, according to the data from Australian government. The jobless rate in April was reported above the expectations of the economists. However, the Australian labor market showed some strength as the number of people employed in the month of April increased to reach past 11 million. The Australian government said today that the unemployment rate for the month of April was reported at 5.4%, unchanged comparing to previous month. The unemployment rate for March was today revised upward from 5.3% to 5.4% on a seasonally adjusted basis. The jobless rate in the month of April came above the expectations of the economists as they were expecting a jobless rate of 5.3% in April. However, the data also revealed that the total number of people employed in the month of April grew by 2.2% comparing to the same month last year. The number of full time jobs in Australia was reported of 11.025 million in the month of April, increasing by 33700 comparing to previous month. On the other hand, the number of Australians with part time employment was reported down by 3900 in the month of April. The data showed that there was reported a net gain of 33700 new jobs in April. The net gain in new jobs in April beat the economists forecast as they were expecting a net gain of 22500 new positions in the period.
