Australia to see two new NASA bases
NASA is going to build two more dish centers in Australia. These bases would be made for viewing the space and would require an investment of $100 million.
At the two bases, instruments which can see through infra-red and smoke cover will be installed.
The plan is part of a commitment that the US had made to Australia for opening up of new bases. It would be 50 years after the first base was built in Australia that this new project is coming up.
The two new facilities will be built at the Canberra Deep Space Communications Complex. It would take over six years to make them.
Talking about the plans, NASA Director Dr Charles Elachi said that there were no problems in deciding that NASA is going to invest in Australia. And since both the countries share friendly relations, the things became simpler.
Since Australia is world famous in the field of radio astronomy, NASA is looking forward to get the best engineers and scientists, he added.
NASA had seen drop in government aid due to the financial crisis and this is a sign that the unit has started to come to its old self again.
