Asif Case: Probe Completed By PCB Committee
The PCB constituted special committee to look into Mohammad Asif's detention at Dubai airport in June this year for the alleged possession of an illegal substance has completed its investigation.
The committee led by Shaqfat Naghmi had been asked to acquire all the documents related to the case, establish facts, and after a complete investigation, submit a report to Nasim Ashraf, the outgoing PCB chairman. The report would be later sent to the ICC.
Naghmi said, "We have completed our work and now it's up to the new chairman to decide on our recommendations.”
The Pakistan fast bowler was detained after customs officials found a small quantity of a white powder in his possession at the Dubai airport.
Meanwhile, in a major relief the officials of the Indian Premier League (IPL) on the request of Asif’s lawyer Shahid Karim have postponed the preliminary its drug inquiry tribunal. However, the League did not have announced any fresh dates for the hearing.
The bowling speedster had earlier also tested positive for nandrolone just before the 2006 Champions Trophy in India. Though he was banned for one year by a PCB tribunal, the punishment was overturned a month later on appeal.
