Artificial Intelligence Would Overtake Human Intelligence in Next 100 Years, warns Stephen Hawking

Famous British theoretical physicist, cosmologist, author Stephen William Hawking warned that artificially intelligent machines could pose a genuine threat to the human race within next 100 years.

Speaking at the Zeitgeist event in London the physicist warned that machines would predictably overtake human intelligence.

He said when computers will overtake humans it would be necessary to make sure that the computers have goals aligned with ours.

He said human future is a race between the growing power of technology and the wisdom with which we use it.

Prof. Hawking has previously warned about the dangers that could be caused due to artificial intelligence.

This was not for the first time when professor has spoken on this topic. Warning about potential threat of artificial intelligence, Prof Hawking said last year that the development of full artificial intelligence could spell the end of the human race.

He also warned that artificially intelligent machines would take off on its own and would re-design itself at an ever increasing rate.

"Humans, who are limited by slow biological evolution, couldn't compete, and would be superseded", he said.

The theoretical physicist doesn't think humans will be the smartest thinkers on the planet 100 years from now. Hawking isn't the only tech and science thought leader who is worried about AI. Earlier this year, he signed an open letter alongside SpaceX and Tesla CEO Elon Musk urging caution when developing artificial intelligence.

Bill Gates also revealed during an Ask Me Anything thread on Reddit that he completely agrees with Elon Musk on the issue, he said they its is high time to be concerned about artificial intelligence.

Physicist and entrepreneur Louis Del Monte last year said presently there are no legislation regarding how much intelligence a machine can have, or how interconnected it can be.
