Desmond Tutu's foundation has unveiled that Anglican Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu was admitted to a Cape Town hospital last Tuesday for the treatment of severe infection. He has completed his medicine course, but will remain in the hospital for observation.
Though he will be in the hospital, he would not receive any intravenous treatment. As per the foundation, Archbishop Tutu is responding well to the treatment. Owing to the stubborn infection, Archbishop Tutu was forced to cancel plan to travel to the Nobel Peace Prize Laureates' summit in Rome in December.
His family has stated that for now it is not known as to when he will be discharged from the hospital. He is out of the Intensive Care Unit, cleared the family. Mpho Tutu, daughter of Archbishop Tutu, said that her father was in great spirits when she went to meet him.
Mpho Tutu said that her father is thankful for the care he has been receiving and love and blessing of friends across the world. It was cleared that the treatment was not related to the prostate cancer, which Tutu had for 18 years and now it is in dormant state.
After getting discharged, Archbishop Tutu will reduce his participation in public events. Desmond Tutu is a South African social rights activist born on October 7, 1931. He received prominence during the 1980s when he opposed apartheid. In 1984, he has received the Nobel Peace Prize.
