April 2010 may prove a roadblock for automakers in India

Indian-Auto-IndustryAuto majors in the country are enjoying the best growth phase ever. With sales up for 13 months in a row, the month of March is also expected to be closed on a high note.

However, with April 2010, as the BS-IV norms will be applicable and hence the products all set to get costly it may prove to be roadblock to the growth of auto majors in the country.

With Hyundai and Maruti posting record sales in the month of February, the sentiment of the market is expected to continue in the same mode till April.

According to a report by Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), the Indian automotive industry sold a mind-boggling 1,53, 845 cars in the month of February breaking the record of 1,45,905 touched a month before.

The budget has already laid ground by increasing the excise duty by 2% and the hike in the auto loans followed soon adding to the woes of automakers. Experts believe that generally March is a good month for automakers as individuals, Government officials and companies buy vehicles before the start of the next financial year to add depreciation to the accounts.
