Ambuja Cements plans to pump Rs 1,600 crore in captive power

Leading cement maker Ambuja Cements has unveiled its plans to pump Rs 1,600 Ambuja Cements plans to pump Rs 1,600 crore in captive power crore in the captive power generation, which would have a capacity of 200 mega watt by fiscal 2010. 

While commenting on the plans, a company official stated, “We plan 200 MW electricity generation capacity from our captive power plants in three years time.”

According to the sources, Ambuja Cements has 11 cement plants, out of which four units have captive power plants (CCPs) attached to them, including the one at Ropar in Punjab. 

The 30 MW captive power plant at Ropar which started operations in 2004 uses agricultural waste for power generation and can produce 30 MW of power which completely fulfills the total electricity needs of the cement plant. 

During the first eight months of this fiscal, the company’s production has gone up by 5.3% at 118.25 lakh tonnes from 112.25 lakh tonnes in the corresponding period of previous fiscal.

Stock of Ambuja Cements closed at Rs 78, up 1.03 percent on National Stock Exchange ( NSE). The total volume of shares traded was 1,275,098 at NSE.
