Amazon offers new tools to woo app developers
American online retail giant, Amazon. com has released a series of new tools to attract more app developers to its Android App store in order to compete with Google Play in a better manner.
The new tools being offered by the company will allow the developers to track user engagement with their apps. A new tool called, Engagement Reports offers a range of metrics, including daily and monthly average revenue per device, average revenue per paid user for in-app purchases, user retention rates, number of active devices and sessions, and daily app installs and uninstalls collected from user devices.
The engagement data, which is updates after every 12 hours, will be available as a chart or downloaded in CSV format that can be used in other tools. The engagement data can also be filtered through marketplace. As there is no new API associated with the reports, the developers will not be required to modify their apps. Amazon is integrating the reports automatically with the apps published after October 25, 2012 through the `Reporting' tab of its Mobile App Distribution Portal.
Meanwhile, the company said that the developers will now be able to use its Appstore to distribute apps to nearly 200 countries around the world.
