Islamabad, Oct 17 : Altaf Hussain, leader of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), will be among the top beneficiaries of the National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO) if the law gets no objection certificate from the Supreme Court.

Rizvi agreed that if the NRO gets Supreme Courts approval, his party would benefit from it, as thousands of his partys workers and leaders faced various cases of diverse nature.

Hussain, himself, is facing over 200 different cases, including one relating to the theft of a policeman’s cap.

MQM’s deputy parliamentary leader in the National Assembly Syed Haider Abbas Rizvi said that among the long list of “cases fabricated” against Hussain, one was that he had stolen a policeman's cap after a scuffle.

“Yes, it is true. An FIR was filed with the Liaquatabad Police Station several years back against our leader,” Rizvi recalled.

He pointed out that Altaf had left the country in early 1992 with a clean slate and all the cases against him were framed afterwards.

Altaf is currently living in London. Former British Prime Minister Tony Blair’s Government had granted him British nationality a few years back, the Daily Times reported.

When asked about the possibility of Hussain’s homecoming, Rizvi said as things stand today, there is no such possibility in the near future.

About his party’s policy on homecoming of Benazir Bhutto, he said that the MQM would not impede her return in any way.

“Karachi is like any other Pakistani city, and any party has equal rights to visit it at its sweet will,” he added. (ANI)
