All-electric Ark Zero quadricycle comes as U.K.'s most affordable EV at $7,650

The Ark Zero, an all-electric quadricycle launched recently in the United Kingdom (UK), is said to be the most affordable EV available in the Northern European country. Designed and built by a London-based EV startup Ark, the new zero-emissions vehicle is available with a price tag of just $7,650 (approximately 5,995 British pounds).

Announcing the availability of the new all-electric quadricycle, the EV startup said it launched the Ark Zero with an aim, besides making money, to help accelerate the country’s transition from pollution-creating gas-guzzling vehicles to a cleaner & greener transportation system as well as to create sustainable transportation system for one and all.

From the images of the Ark Zero, it becomes very clear that the new EV is a tiny vehicle. As per information released by the company, the vehicle in question measures just 98.4 inches (roughly 2,500 mm) in length, 47.3 inches (roughly 1,202 mm) in width, and 64 inches (roughly 1,625 mm) in height. Its wheelbase measures 67.7 inches. That means the new EV is quite small but it is taller than the Citroën Ami.

For the body and chassis, a unified single unit made entirely of aluminium has been used. The monocoque construction enhances the EV’s strength as well as rigidity, providing additional safety to the driver as well as other passengers. The company explained that it opted for aluminium because this metal allows greater energy absorption & dissipation compared to a steel body in the event of a crash or accident. Moreover, this metal is lighter as well as resistant to corrosion. Given the small size and the aluminium body, it is not surprising that the new EV is merely 1,078 pounds (approx. 489 kilograms) in weight.

When it comes to performance, the Ark Zero has a claimed range of around 50 miles (approx. 80 km). Its top speed has been reported at 28 miles per hour (mph) courtesy of a 3-hp (2.2-kW) electric motor that relies on an 80-Ah lithium-ion battery for power. Available in a single specification, the EV also features a sunroof, backup camera, Bluetooth connectivity, LED lights, and a central LCD infotainment screen.

EV startup Ark, which has been described as the U.K.’s first all-electric car manufacturer, claims that the Zero will be an efficient rival to the like of the Citroën Ami, Fiat Topolino, and the Opel Rocks Electric.
