Alcatel-Lucent launches VDSL Vectoring technology for faster broadband
French networking giant Alcatel-Lucent has announced the launch of new equipment based on its VDSL Vectoring technology, which will significantly improve broadband speeds over copper networks.
The new equipment is claimed to be capable of increasing broadband speeds over copper networks to 100Mbps and higher.
"By boosting the capabilities of copper access networks, Alcatel-Lucent makes it possible for service providers to make the best use of existing copper infrastructure. As a result, operators now have the ability to improve their broadband offerings and reach more subscribers much more quickly than ever before," Alcatel-Lucent said in a release.
The launch will spark new debate about the use of technologies in improving broadband speeds. In the UK, government is spending millions of pounds to help BT establish a new fibre network connecting homes and business in the UK. However, several regions will be left with copper-based networks.
The Alcatel-Lucent `s VDSL Vectoring technology can help operators improve these networks and offer matching speeds to that on new fibre networks. Dave Geary, president of the wireline division of Alcatel-Lucent said that the new technology could help operators deliver new services and generate new revenue.
