Airtel Wirthdraws ‘95’ Dialing From Fixed Line Phones
Telecom operator Bharti Airtel has withdrawn ‘95’, which it launched for intra-state landline communication through its fixed line service.
The decision was taken following the order from Department of Telecom (DoT), Ministry of Communications and IT, Government of India.
The company said that the withdrawal would be effective from midnight of March 9, 2009.
Now, the fixed line customers of Airtel would be capable of calling intra-state (earlier accessed through 95) by activating the STD facility, and dialing up the city STD code prefixed with ‘0’.
The company said that Airtel customers residing within 500 kms of a telecom circle and less than 50 kms of the bordering SDCA need not to activate the STD facility.
They will just dial the city STD code prefixed with 0. If they want to dial numbers outside this limit, the client will have to turn on STD facility by phoning 121 from his Airtel fixed line number.
The customer will continue to be billed for all calls as per the existing tariff.
