Airtel to revise some postpaid mobile rates from Sept 8

Airtel to revise some postpaid mobile rates from Sept 8Telecommunications giant Bharti Airtel has confirmed that it would revise some postpaid mobile rates from 8th of September, a move that will likely make some postpaid customers to fork out up more for making calls.

The largest telecom operator of India has been sending out a message to customers registered under its per-minute billing plan Advantage 199, stating that their mobile phone bill plan will be revised from 8-September-13.

After the revision, postpaid customers will have to pay 60 paise per minute for local and STD calls to Airtel mobiles and 90 paise per minute for calls to landlines. Currently, these customers are paying 50 paise per minute for making local and STD calls to Airtel mobiles and 60 paise for calls to landlines.

Confirming the decision, a spokesperson for Airtel said, "There has been no change in headline tariffs. Some customers are getting notified now as per the schedule, which is in compliance with TRAI guidelines for such revisions of promotional tariffs."

The spokesperson explained that the tariff revision was on account of changes made earlier in some of the company's plans, which would be put into practice now.

Over the past two years, the company has hiked mobile call rates by as much as 100 per cent. Currently, headline tariffs or basic call rates are in the range of between 90 paise and Rs 1.20 per minute.
