After Worst Hit Year for Auto Sales, a Rise was Seen in December
In around 13 months, the auto sales in Canada rose for the first time after viewing the depressed levels in the earlier year. For the whole year, the auto sales in Canada were down 10.7 percent, which was the biggest drop in auto sales since 1990.
The December ‘08 auto sales were 94,423, while this December the auto sales managed to rise to 111,186 vehicles. Whereas, in December 2007 nearly 120,000 units were sold.
In December, the auto companies also saw some excitement after a long wait period, when General Motors Canada was the No. 1 auto seller in Canada, but its sales went down 9.6 percent to
18,984 vehicles.
Ford Canada sales increased 25.5 percent to 17,930 vehicles, whereas on the 3rd position was Toyota Canada, with a drastic jump of 81.6 percent to17, 707 units. Chrysler and Honda also saw their sales up by 12.4 percent and 17 percent respectively.
Some of the smaller companies had a strong year, with Hyundai's Canadian sales up 28 percent; Kia up 22.9 percent; Subaru up 15.8 percent; Audi up 22.0 percent; Mercedes Benz and Smart up 11.7 percent; and BMW and Mini up 2.9 percent.
