BSEMarket Round Up

The benchmark index extended its winning streak to the fifth day and ended flat as profit-taking erased earlier gains. The Sensex advanced 33 points to close at 16,216 after trading between 16,434 and 16,166. The Nifty ended with just 5 points gain at 4,819 after shedding 69 points from day's high of 4889. Metals, banking and IT stocks posted gains today, realty and auto counters ended lower. The volumes were very high, total traded turnover was at Rs 1,01,849 cr. as against Rs 78,551 cr. and the market breadth was also negative. The Sept Nifty future ended with 15 points discount.

Movers & Shakers

The BSE metal index rose 1.2 %. Among the metal stocks, Jindal Saw surged 7 % and Sesa Goa rose 6.2 %. Sterlite Industries and Tata Steel were up 2.3-2.5%.

The BSE bankex gained 1 %. In the banking space, ICICI Bank, Union Bank of India and Canara Bank were up over 2 % each.

The BSE IT index also gained 0.8 %. Infosys gained 1.92.

The realty index on the BSE, however, fell 2.2 %. HDIL shed 3.8 % to Rs 308. Ansal API and DLF also lost over 2.7 % each.

In the oil & gas space, Cairn India was down 2.83%. Reliance Industries fell 0.93%.

In the capital goods space, Siemens was up 3.85%, BHEL up 1.20% and ABB up 0.31.

In the Sensex pack ICICI Bank was the top gainer. The stock rose 3.1 % to Rs 815. Sterlite Industries and Tata Steel surged over 2.2 % each.

DLF was the top loser in the group. The stock fell 2.7 % to Rs 408. Hero Honda Motors also shed 2.4 % to close at Rs 1,587.
