Abu Salem produced in Delhi court
New Delhi, Nov 26 : Accused of 1993 Mumbai serial blasts Abu Salem was produced in a court in New Delhi on Wednesday in connection with an alleged extortion call made by him to a businessman.
The court has allowed him to return to Mumbai for appearing before various courts in connection with other cases.
Salem is required to give a written undertaking that he would be present in New Delhi on December 12 for the next hearing in connection with the extortion case.
Before reaching the court, Salem clarified his relationship with Bollywood actress Monia Bedi. Both of them were arrested together in Portugal and were later extradited to India on Indian government''s request. Salem reiterated that Bedi was his wife, a claim that Bedi has refuted many times.
“There is nothing like that, she is already my wife. No, no, she is not denying our relationship, you people are misunderstanding,” said Salem.
Salem''s counsel, Arvind Kumar Shukla said that a copy of the charge sheet filed against Salem has been handed over to facilitate trail.
“Today he was produced in the court and the charge sheet copy was handed over. The pending trail can now take place. The charges might be proved or he might be discharged, this would now be debated in the court,” said Shukla.
Besides having been accused of conspiracy to carry out the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts, Salem is also charged of having supplied arms to other accused in the case.
Over 257 persons were killed and over 700 injured in the thirteen serial blasts carried out across Mumbai on March 12, 1993. (ANI)
