Srinagar, Kashmir - At least 25 people were killed and 47 injured when two buses collided in a mountainous region in India-administered Kashmir on Wednesday, police said.

Two buses collided head-on at Panthal, 45 kilometres north of the state's winter capital of Jammu in Reasi district, a police spokesman said.

The driver of one of the buses carrying over 70 passengers lost control on impact resulting in the vehicle rolling down into a gorge.

"The rescue teams have recovered bodies of 25 passengers and the wounded have been hospitalized," district police chief Jugal Kishore said.

"It seems that rash driving was the reason behind the accident," he added.

The survivors were moved to a hospital in Jammu for treatment. Doctors described the condition of 10 injured people as serious. (dpa)
