24 pilgrims killed, 75 injured in truck mishap on Punjab-Himachal Pradesh border
Anandpur Sahib, Mar. 31: At least 24 pilgrims were killed and 75 were injured when their truck returning from Naina Devi shrine overturned at Rampur Jhajjhar village along the Punjab-Himachal Pradesh border on Tuesday morning.
According to official sources, the pilgrims were going to pay obeisance at the Naina Devi shrine in Himachal Pradesh when the mishap took place.
Most of the victims, who had set out on a pilgrimage of various shrines on Saturday, were reported to be residents of Ghumana village in the Machhiwara area of Ludhiana District.
It is being stated that 21 people died on the spot, while three succumbed to their injuries on way to hospital.
Sixty-five pilgrims have been admitted to a government hospital at Anandpur Sahab for treatment.
Ten have been referred to the PGI in Chandigarh as their condition was said to be critical.
Sources claimed that the driver has fled from the accident spot. (ANI)
